Post #26 10/23/10 Fat Matting the interior & Dash install

65 Mustang Restoration

We had hoped to get the Matting installed last weekend,, but had a slight delay due to two family members spending some time in the hospital. Once they were all fixed up we got back on track and busted our rears to get it installed. The  matting that we used is called "FAT MAT, Rattle Trap X-Treme" which we got from our friends at "Noise Killers Sound Control" out of Painesville, Ohio. We were able to purchase what we needed right off of their listings on Ebay. They have several styles of matting available, but we chose the 80 mil matting, because it's the meanest stuff available. FYI,, their service is Awesome!

The Fat Mat is absolutely awesome! It's extremely sticky and very easy to work with, if you take your time. We're extremely satisfied with this product,, and What a Difference it has made to how the car sounds,, the hollowness sound is gone! This matting is going to make a huge difference once the car is done.

The only down-fall about this product is,,,  it takes quite a bit of time to do the car,,, but then again, I'm a stickler for doing a good job, so I don't blame the product,, I blame the car designer that put all of those lumps, bumps, ridges, divots, bends, and curves in all of the places we had to cover. It took us around 13-14 hours to completely cover the floor & roof,,, but it was well worth the time and effort!

I would guess that we used approx. 80 sq. ft. of the matting so far,, luckily, I just received the 2nd 100 sq. ft. order of this matting,,, we'll be needing a bunch of it before this project is done.

Since it was getting late, we stuck the dash into place for one final test fit. The white blanket you see, is a new fire blanket that we also just got in, off of Ebay.

If all goes as planned, we're going to try and get the dash & cowl sections in tomorrow,, so check back soon.

Till next time,,,
